NatuRHO & The Delta Xi Sigma Experience @DXSigma1922 @BlairChic @TUBC

Hey Glitterati!

Natural hair is sweeping the nation! More and more African American women are going natural and transitioning and doing the big chop. Transitioning is using different manipulations of the hair I.e. sew ins, braids, etc and letting the hair grow to a certain length and then cutting the relaxed ends off. The big chop is cutting the relaxed ends off without transitioning.

Lisa Freelon-Gilbert, my Chapter Soror, came up with the brilliant idea to have a forum for naturals to learn more information and be able to flourish in the natural community.

Lisa's Vision for NatuRHO:
The idea behind NatuRho came from the number of friends and family who had either transitioned or was considering transitioning. I know when I was first considered going natural, I had all kinds of questions, concerns and doubts about it. Yet, at the time there didn't appear to be a lot of resources and I wished there had been some sort of natural hair platform when I was first starting this journey. Not only had natural hair become an "in" thing, then I joined Sigma Gamma Rho and saw all of the beautiful Naturalistas. It got my wheels spinning, and I wanted to propose an event that not only dealt with natural hair, but celebrated it. An event that gave tips, tricks, advice, product recommendations, etc. so women had a starting point.

It feels good to see the vision come to life, and thank my Sorors, friends and family for making this happen. I hope that this can turn into an annual event for the ladies of Delta Xi Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

On March 23, 2013, Sorors and naturals convened to Blair Chic boutique on Chicago's north side, to nosh on hor derves, have natural hair conversations, and an awesome fashion show featuring fashions by Blair Chic. The natural hair panel consisted of Blogger Jackie Marie, Emon Fowler the creator of the Harriet Experience, and Yeefa Thurman a natural hair stylist. The panel answered questions that were asked anonymously, and each gave there own take on their journey and is natural hair a fad.

After the panel there was a fashion show with Blair Chic fashions, in which I did the makeup and my Soror Stevania Stephens did the hair. My classmate Amanda White, also helped me with makeup. All three of us are Tricoci Univerisity students. It was such an awesome experience, and look forward to next years' event.

Lisa snaps for your vision and seeing it through! Thanks for such a beautiful event! Pictures from the event at the bottom.

What have you learned since becoming natural? Do you see "going natural" as a fad? Do you make your own products or buy our products?

Until next time,

Brandy

Fashion Show Outfit of the Night feat. @nikkinicole_ from @GlamNoLabelz #fashion #style #BLMGirls

Hey Glitterati,

I'm finally getting around to doing an Outfit of the Night. I was asked by Curve Culture to attend the Curvaceous Fashion show, and the pics from the fashion show will be in a separate post.

Since I've been in school, I don't get to wear regular clothes unless I'm going out, which is few and far between these days. I bought these dope stone acid washed jeans from Nikki at GlamNoLabelz. I kept my makeup fresh faced and nude so it wouldn't compete with my ensemble.

Jeans-Chic
Tshirt-Target
Blazer-thrifted
Shoes-Seychelles
Belt-Dots
Necklace-Jaye aka Curvatude
Purse-DSW

I got so many compliments on my outfit! I love when my vision comes together.

What have you been wearing lately? Any new trends you want to try?

Until Next Time,

Bran

Inaugural Outfit of the Night Featuring @faithyfullyme and @lanaturalista96 #SGRho #ootn #fashion #style #blmgirls

Hey Glitterati,

I'm happy to bring you a special outfit of the night with two of my Sorors Faith and Stephanie. The weekend before the Inauguration of President Obama in Washington, DC. was both Faith and Stephanie's birthdays. They painted the town blue and gold the whole week!

This special occasion, they were attending a black tie event, Faith asked me in advance some styling choices for the event. Ruffles and sequined was the choice for the night.

Faith's Attire
Top-White House Black Market
Pants-Limited
Soes-Chinese Laundry

I also suggested that because of the white and black monochromatic attire that she should go with a pinup girl makeup look, with red sultry lips to boot. I love her outfit and makeup. Werk Faith and Steph!

Did you all do anything for the Inauguration? Maybe you went to D.C., or watched at home?

Until Next Time,

Bran
